32nd National Closes with Strong Sunday Crowd

Tyson and BB Hall of Fame Signers Keep Fans Happy

A strong Sunday Autograph lineup headlined by Mike Tyson generated a large Mike Tysoncrowd for Sunday, August 7, 2011 as the 32nd National came to a close. Tyson was making a rare autograph appearance and stayed most of the day. The baseball Hall of Fame group was headed by newest Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar.

Positive comments about the 32nd National have been hitting the web sites and blogs since the show closed. Chris Olds of Beckett Media came up with a one-word summary of the National in his blog. Chris called the National, "Overwhelming!". Read more from this blog by clicking here

Bill Simmons, "The Sports Guy" made a third consecutive trip to the National Sports Collectors Convention and posted a 16-page photo essay on his findings. Lots of cool stuff and interesting observations. Click here to see Bill's entire article.

The 33rd National Sports Collectors Convention will be held in Baltimore, MD, August 1-5, 2012. Booth space is still available for the Baltimore show. Email the National Office at NSCCOffice@aol.com for information.

The current schedule for the National is: 2012-Baltimore; 2013-Chicago; 2014-Cleveland; 2015-Chicago; 2016-TBD; 2017-TBD; 2018-Cleveland.

Organizers have been asked about a return of the National to the West Coast. For the last several years we have repeatedly spoken to authorities in Anaheim, site of the most successful National ever in 1991 and also the site of the National in 1996, 2000 and 2006. The Convention Center has a rigid policy which will not allow them to guarantee dates to us. Despite our past history, numerous meetings, phone calls and letters, Anaheim officials have been unable to provide the National with dates far enough in advance to allow adequate preparation and planning for the event. We have also had discussions with authorities in San Diego and San Francisco with similar results. We will continue to look for a suitable West Coast site.

2012 National Moved to Baltimore  Cleveland to Host in 2014

Based upon the success of the 2010 National in Baltimore, exhibitors were very enthusiastically looking forward to a return trip to the city. However, in the presentations made by Baltimore to host the 2014 National, there were two major drawbacks. First, the 2014 dates were much later in August than the National had ever been held and second, the Convention Center could not enter into a contract with the National to guarantee the 2014 dates until sometime in 2012. Negotiations with Visit Baltimore, the Convention and Visitors Bureau for the city, went on for several months until an agreement was reached for dates in 2012 (August 1-5). The National had a previous contract with Cleveland for the 2012 National.  Discussions with Clevelands I-X Center resulted in an agreement to move the 2012 National to 2014 and to schedule the 2018 National for Cleveland. A mail ballot was sent to exhibitors to approve these changes and the proposal was overwhelmingly approved.

The current schedule for the National is: 2011-Chicago; 2012-Baltimore; 2013-Chicago; 2014-Cleveland; 2015-Chicago; 2016-TBD; 2017-TBD; 2018-Cleveland.

Organizers have been asked about a return of the National to the West Coast. For the last several years we have repeatedly spoken to authorities in Anaheim, site of the most successful National ever in 1991 and also the site of the National in 1996, 2000 and 2006. Similar to the situation in Baltimore, the Convention Center has a rigid policy which will not allow them to guarantee dates to us. Despite our past history, numerous meetings, phone calls and letters, Anaheim officials have been unable to provide the National with dates far enough in advance to allow adequate preparation and planning for the event.  We will continue to look for a suitable West Coast site.

Exhibitors in the Olympic Pavilion will have a diverse selection of Olympic items including Pins, Medals, Torches, Uniforms, Stamps, Coins and other Olympic-related items.
